Our Favorite Souvenirs

As you venture out this springtime, you may be looking for the perfect souvenir for that special somebody back home. There’s no shortage of great discoveries to be made at the gift shop circuit, boardwalk, or resort you’re staying at—but for the sake of improving your search, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite souvenirs ever!

Let’s get started below.

Seashells

Why do we love the simplicity of seashells? While the reason may vary from person to person—one might be saving up to create a one-of-a-kind seashell necklace, for example—we think it all goes back to the simple nature of hunting down seashells as a kid. If you give a few to a friend or family member—especially shells that are uniquely-colored or otherwise hard to find—you’re sharing a token of your hard work as you combed the shore for treasures, and are gifting something that can’t ever be replicated. That’s quite a lot for such a simple gift!

Artisanal goods

Whenever you take a coastal vacation—especially one to an exotic spot you’ve never been to before—keep your eyes peeled for artisanal goods at farmer’s markets, mom-and-pop beachside gift shops, and other local gems. These are the spots where you will be able to find one-of-a-kind gifts like sea glass sculptures, ocean artwork, and other things that convey a love for the sea (but can’t be picked up online or across the country).

Collectibles

Know your “giftee” and keep their interests in mind as you shop for them. What do they collect, or always seem to want more of? You’ll find that many of these items—piggy banks, photo frames, shot glasses, or even simple keychains—can be found in just about every gift shop up and down the coast, with each item offering the unique flair of the city you found it in.

Functional gear

A functional gift is doubly meaningful! For a souvenir that’s as special as it is practical, we love souvenirs that you can wear—hats, tees, jackets, for example, or cook with—serving bowls, novelty silverware, aprons, etc.

What’s the greatest souvenir you’ve ever given or received? We’d love to hear all about it! Souvenirs let you carry a piece of your vacation back with you—and it when it comes to craft and thoughtfulness, these ones can’t be beat.
