Don’t let this Summer be like every other summer, plan a snorkeling and diving trip to one of the world’s largest coral reefs, The Great Barrier Reef, just off the coast of Australia!  We love the Great Barrier Reef because it does not require you to dive in order for you to truly experience the reef, it’s one of the world’s best reefs to snorkel. It’s easily navigable and suitable for beginning and advanced snorkelers.

The Great Barrier Reef is more than 1,500 miles long and includes 2,900 individual reefs. This reef is so large that it can be seen from outer space! Wow! Expect to see a diverse group of marine species including more than 30 species of dolphins, whales and porpoises, six sea turtle species including the green turtle and loggerhead turtle, 125 species of shark and giant clams.

If you are not planning on bringing your Monterey Boat to Australia, there are several great, local snorkeling and diving charters in the area. Many of the charters are day trips that include a guided tour and lunch. A few of them even offer a float-like contraption for hesitant snorkelers. If you’re not interested in snorkeling or diving, or looking for something fun to do in the evening, purchase tickets for a sunset cruise.

Check back next week for our next snorkeling and diving excursion, we’ll be visiting Palau. And don’t forget to share pictures with us on Facebook of your snorkeling and diving trip Down Under!
