Offering power boats, nautical accessories and parts, Braga Import is an authorized dealer for Monterey Boats and Yamaha and Mercury outboard motors.

Braga Import specializes in providing boaters in the Manaus area with everything they need to enjoy the water in one of the world's most renowned ecosystems, the Amazon River and rainforest!

Manaus (Portuguese pronunciation: maˈnaws) is the capital of the state of Amazonas in northern Brazil, situated at the confluence of the Negro and Solimoes rivers, it is located in the heart of the Amazon rain forest. Manaus is the largest metropolitan area and most populous city of Amazonas, with more than 2 million inhabitants, and a very popular ecotourist destination. Ships dock at the main port in Manaus directly downtown.

This ancient waterfront city has an interesting history. Founded in 1669 as the Fort of São José do Rio Negro, in 1832 the town was named Manaus, which means "mother of the gods" in tribute to the indigenous nation of Manaós. In 1848, now a city, it was named Cidade da Barra do Rio Negro, Portuguese for "The City of the Margins of Black River," and at the beginning of the 20th century it was known as "Heart of the Amazon" and "City of the Forest."

Located next to the Amazon rain forest, Manaus attracts thousands of tourists who enjoy a variety of boat trips to explore the region. Wildlife is plentiful, and it is home to the Pied Tamarin, one of Brazil's most endangered primates. Visitors also take boats to see the point where the black waters of the Rio Negro meet the Solimões River's brown waters, flowing together without mixing for 5.5 miles. This natural phenomenon is caused by the great difference in the water temperatures and currents.

Many of Manaus' beaches, bayous and the Paricatuba Waterfall, located on the right bank of the Negro River, are only accessible by boat. If you are in Manaus in June, you'll see the Processão de São Pedro, when hundreds of watercraft parade on the river.

We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with our new friends at Braga Import. Visit them at http://www.bragaimport.com.br/monterey.
