MONTEREY LIFE

A Texas-Sized Boating Expo

Wed, Jul 09, 2014 at 12:00AM

Everything really is bigger in Texas, at least for the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) Boat Expo. The show, which is the largest boating event in North Texas, starts this Friday! Keep reading to find out what the show and the surrounding area have to offer boaters.

Attendees at the expo will be able to browse through over 200,000 square feet of show space and more than 450 of the latest boat models—but the boating fun doesn’t end there.

Boaters can devote some of their time to the Expo; for the rest of the weekend, why not try camping at Cedar Hill State Park? Located on the northeast corner of 7,500 acre Joe Pool Lake, the park offers visitors more than 300 campsites, boat ramps, a fishing barge, and plenty of space for hiking, biking and swimming. There’s also a marina equipped with 235 wet slips and available dry storage. Did we mention it’s only ten miles away from Dallas?

There’s plenty of fishing to be done at Joe Pool Lake, of course—but if you decide to dine out for your fill of seafood, head into the city and check out Flying Fish, a casual spot full of nautical character. You’ll find walls laden in Billy Bass sent from across the country, and can chow down on oysters and shrimp caught off the coast in the nearby Gulf of Mexico or catfish farm raised exclusively in the US.

The expo kicks off 3 pm Friday the 11th at Market Hall. Bring $12 for adults and $6 for kids…and don’t forget to visit our dealer, Mid-South Marine, while you’re there!
