Boating Lifestyle: How Boating Improves Your Health

A day out on the water sometimes feels like the pinnacle of relaxation. The amazing weather, scenes, along with a crew to spend it with are what it’s all about. It is not uncommon for this feeling to persist the more you spend aboard your boat, and this is because there are several health benefits that come from boating! Having a healthy lifestyle is the key to a longer life, and getting on the water is an activity that can really help in the long run. The more often you boat, the better you will feel mentally, physically, and socially.

The Blue Mind

That feeling of calmness you may experience when in or on the water is known as the Blue Mind Theory. More specifically, it's a meditative state you feel that eases your mind. This goes for not just boating, but for people on the beach, swimming, diving, and doing all the other activities that have to do with being in or near the water.

This feeling may come from how natural and serene the ocean can be at times, compared to the busy and always-moving lives that many of us have experienced at one point or another. Seeing marine life is also associated with the Blue Mind Theory, as seeing a creature in the water excites us, giving our mind something it may have never seen or experienced in person before.

There is so much more that the Blue Mind Theory covers, with it also providing examples of cultures around the world using water as a place where people are healed or entranced by. It is very fascinating to see how even in the modern day, we are still amazed by the water and what it has to offer us.

Physical Wellness

Being on a boat also promotes getting outside and getting your body to move. Just being in the fresh air gives you increased energy, as well as getting some natural vitamin D from the sun. Depending on what you are doing on your vessel, it can also be a good workout if you are doing some sort of activity.

While it relates to mental health as well, the literal boating aspect gives you skills on how to operate a vessel, navigate, and tread different types of water, etc. Doing these activities gets your blood pumping and a higher utilisation of your brain to benefit both physical and mental strength.

Social Wellness

Being on a boat with friends is an amazing experience that can also benefit your overall health. It can be easier to go for an outing with your friends and family if you have your own boat. You will most likely always look for an excuse to get out on the water, and why not bring some friends! This also caters to being able to do different activities while aboard. Some people may want to swim, while others may just want to lounge and relax aboard the boat, and that is okay.

You can also meet other boaters who may have knowledge to share about their own boating experiences. While boating is a lifestyle, it is also a hobby that others love to converse about, from the smallest fishing vessels to luxury yachts; there is a story to be told with every boat.

If you're passionate about boating, it’s not hard to understand why. That rush you get when you are out on the water doesn’t just feel good but is beneficial to your overall health. Boating offers the Blue Mind state of being, physical and mental benefits, and helps you become more social as well. The Blue Mind is a feeling like no other that humans have felt for years, and your time on the water is no different. Feeling good not only physically, but mentally, is another great perk that boating nurtures. Also, being able to become closer with your friends and family while meeting new people is also a great opportunity that many people seek out. No matter where you are, getting on the water is such a great feeling. The more you embrace this lifestyle, the better you’ll feel. No matter what kind of boat you have, boating is a truly rewarding experience that can enrich your life for years to come.
