Why the Best Family Memories Happen on the Water

Ask almost any family that grew up boating about their favorite memories, and chances are they can tell you stories that still make everyone laugh. The first time someone got up on skis. The afternoon everyone got caught in the rain. A favorite place to anchor. The restaurant you always went to by boat. Or maybe it was simply all those days spent together with nowhere else you needed to be.

That’s one of the greatest things about boating. It gives families something that can be hard to find in everyday life-time together without all the usual distractions.

No cell phones, no deadlines, or distractions, just spending time on the water together making unforgettable memories. Maybe the kids want to tube, someone else wants to swim, and someone is perfectly happy stretching out in the sun. Somehow, it all fits into the same day.

Over time, those days can become traditions.

There’s the cove you always visit, the annual trip everyone looks forward to, the favorite waterfront restaurant or the spot where you stop every summer for a swim. Kids learn how to tie a line, help at the dock, take their first turn at the helm and eventually start bringing their own friends along.

And somewhere along the way, you realize they’re growing up.

The little ones who once needed help climbing aboard are suddenly helping you with the boat. The child you taught to waterski is now teaching someone else. The family boating traditions you started years ago begin carrying themselves forward.

That’s why a Monterey is about much more than the places it can take you. It becomes part of your family’s story.
