The Tampa Boat Show: Boating in and Around Tampa

Thu, Sep 04, 2014 at 12:00AM

Are you going to be at the Progressive Insurance Tampa Boat Show this weekend? Tampa’s biggest and longest-running boat show has something to offer everyone in the family, whether you’re looking for hands-on training, fishing tips, or something for the kids. You can also stop by our dealer, Thunder Marine to check out our latest models!

If you’re visiting or are just a Florida resident looking for a cool new spot, try one of these Southwest Florida sites after the show—great for boaters and anglers alike.

Tampa Bay

Convenient, close-by—and your passage to adventure. Tampa Bay offers you quick access to charming cities like Safety Harbor and Apollo Beach—whether you’re on the water or the beach is up to you!

Treasure Island

It’s all in the name. Treasure Island is a great spot for boaters that’s easily accessible from Tampa Bay, and it has a thriving boat-loving culture that visitors will enjoy. You can stop for lunch at Gators Café, the largest waterfront boat bar in the world, before getting back on the water.

St. Petersburg/Clearwater

The St. Pete and Clearwater area is home to hundreds of miles of navigable (and well-marked) waterways, making it a great choice for out-of-towners or those less familiar with the area. When you need a break, head on over to St. Pete Beach—this beautiful spot was ranked the #1 beach destination in the US (and #5 in the world!) by Trip Advisor in 2012.

Caladesi Island State Park

Caladesi Island is located outside of Tampa Bay but is a short drive from St. Pete—if you want to cruise up the coast instead, even better! You’ll find a 108-slip bayside marina when you get here. Weddings are held on Caladesi due to the sheer beauty of its ruggedly-shaped white sand beaches and striking blue water. This is a Florida gem very far removed from the typical hotel-dotted beaches we’re used to seeing.
